I welcome the great news that following the announcement of a general election, the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill has been dropped.

This means that the Government has scrapped its plans to engage in the surveillance of tens of millions of bank accounts.

I signed an Early Day Motion condemning these plans.

After months of tireless campaigning, this sinister charge into authoritarianism has been defeated.
