As it pushes through the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill, the Government is trying to give itself new powers for the surveillance of tens of millions of people’s bank accounts.

This cannot go ahead, there is no democratic mandate for increasing spying and treating the public as criminals by default.

That’s why I’ve signed Early Day Motion 725, raising concerns about the potential new powers that would allow the Government to engage in the mass surveillance of people’s bank accounts.
