I wrote a letter to HM Inspectorate for Prisons and the Care Quality Commission to raise my concerns about the provision of healthcare at HMP Wormwood Scrubs.
While I was relieved to learn that Mr Khalid was admitted to hospital on 18 May, the deterioration in his condition prior to this, combined with delays in accessing appropriate treatment and support raises significant concerns about whether his healthcare needs were adequately identified and addressed, and whether sufficient support was provided within the prison.
I asked HM Inspectorate of Prisons and the Care Quality Commission to undertake an urgent inspection of healthcare provision at HMP Wormwood Scrubs and to provide a full explanation of the circumstances of Mr Khalid’s case.
