Letter to the Secretary of State for Health

I have written a letter to the Secretary of State for Health to raise my concerns about the support available to families following a miscarriage.

Right now, most women and birthing people must endure the devastation of three miscarriages before they are routinely offered care, tests and treatments that could help prevent the loss of another baby. This lack of standardised care has left countless families without answers, their grief insufficiently recognised, and opportunities to prevent further losses missed.

Change is clearly needed. Researchers from Tommy’s – the pregnancy and baby charity – have developed and piloted the Graded Model of Miscarriage Care, which ensures women and birthing people are routinely offered additional support after every miscarriage, with the level of care increasing with each loss.

I asked the Secretary of State to outline what consideration he had given to the implementation of Tommy’s Graded Model of Miscarriage Care across England?
