I have signed a letter to the Foreign Secretary, alongside 47 other MPs, about the escalation of deadly Israeli settler violence in the West Bank and Israel’s systematic demolition of Palestinian homes.
The letter calls on the Government to take the following actions:
- Urgent diplomatic intervention on Umm al-Kheir: Instruct the UK Consulate-General in Jerusalem via the FCDO to raise the demolition orders directly with the relevant Israeli authorities.
- Public statement: Issue a public statement naming Umm al-Kheir specifically, calling for an immediate halt to all outstanding demolition orders.
- Comprehensive sanctions policy on Israeli settlements: The UK must ban the import of all goods made in whole or part in Israel’s illegal settlements and introduce robust sanctions targeting individuals and organisations violating international law.
- Use the UN Security Council: As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, table or co-sponsor a resolution specifically addressing the demolition of Palestinian civilian infrastructure in Area C and the impunity for settler violence in the West Bank.
