I recently wrote to the Secretary of State for Justice alongside nine Black Labour MPs to raise serious concerns about the Government’s plans to expand judge‑only trials and reduce the right to trial by jury.

Our message was clear: the right to trial by jury is a vital safeguard, and removing it before proper evidence is gathered would be premature and unjust. We are urging the Government to withdraw these proposals and commit to protecting this fundamental right for all.
