Holocaust Memorial Day marks a time to remember the at least six million Jewish people murdered and countless other victims of Nazi persecution, and of all genocides.
The theme this year – bridging generations – encourages us to engage actively with the past and see remembrance as an act of responsibility that lives on through us all.
These are the words of Ivan Shaw MBE, a Holocaust survivor:
“I think it’s important for future generations to know what happened and to learn from first hand, from people’s experiences and that should never happen again. But I get a bit depressed when I read the news— there are comments and views expressed which are comparable to those expressed in the 30s by the Nazis. So in some ways we haven’t learned, we haven’t moved on. So I think that’s why, that’s why it’s important that the Holocaust should not be forgotten.” https://www.holocausttestimony.org.uk/
