I have written to Hamish Falconer MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Foreign Office, alongside 80 parliamentarians, calling on the Government to support the rebuilding of agricultural infrastructure in Palestine.
Widespread destruction of farmland, irrigation systems, and storage facilities has devastated Palestinian food production and deepened dependence on foreign food aid.
The Israeli Government’s blockade of aid into the region has led to widespread famine and malnutrition, with children, older people and those with pre-existing health conditions the most affected.
Following the UK’s recognition of a Palestinian state, restoring land access and sovereignty is vital.
The UK should advocate for Palestinian farmers’ rights, help establish humanitarian corridors for agricultural inputs – including seeds, fertilisers, and machinery – and strengthen local food systems to reduce dependency and restore dignity.
There can be no security or peace for Palestinians, without a sustainable, locally-rooted food system.
