I was asked by Desmog to comment on their investigation which revealed the Institute of Economic Affairs took £640,000 from oil giants and Rupert Murdoch’s media conglomerate.
I said:
“This revelation confirms what many of us suspected: the fossil fuel industry is weaponising its profits to exert undue influence over the policy agenda, through organisations like the IEA.”
“Without checks on corporate power, the health of our democracy is undermined – and this is one such example. There remains a strong public concern about climate change. If governments let shady think tanks gain a foothold in policymaking, that stalls action to advance the public interest and erodes trust in politics.”
