Letter to Government: Raising Concerns with Closure of Convalescence Care Facilities in Norfolk.
Letter to Government: Raising Concerns with Closure of Convalescence Care Facilities in Norfolk.

I wrote to the Government with Steff Aquarone MP about Tory County Council closure of local convalescence care facilities. I am pressing for urgent talks with Government, the County Council and others to protect care.

In 2023, Grays Fair Court in Norwich and Benjamin Court in Cromer were closed without consultation.

Convalescence beds help people leave hospital sooner and recover near loved ones. With Norfolk’s ageing population, these settings are increasingly vital.

Recent NHS England data shows “bed blockers” cost Norfolk and Waveney nearly £2.3 million in September. These are patients well enough to leave hospital but unable to go home without step‑down care.

For the sake of older people and our health service, we need more convalescence care, not less.
