I visited the 1st Bowthorpe Brownies as part of UK Parliament Week. The event helps people understand what Parliament is, what it does, and how our democracy works. Young people are an ideal audience for this.
The Brownies shared their own ideas about what the government does and what they think an MP’s role involves. Their views were thoughtful, honest, and sometimes unexpected.
We also took part in activities and games that showed how Parliament works. It was a good way to learn together while keeping things engaging.
Events like this matter for young people. They build early awareness of how decisions are made, encourage confidence in asking questions, and show that their voices count. Helping the next generation to understand and take part in democracy is one of the most valuable things we can do.
