Rosebank remains the UK’s largest undeveloped oil field. In January, the Edinburgh court ruled its approval unlawful due to the scale of emissions involved. The Labour government now faces a decision on whether to re-approve the project under a revised regime.

I oppose the development of Rosebank. I support a properly funded transition for oil and gas workers and affected communities. The UK needs to fix its energy system by scaling up renewables, cutting reliance on fossil fuels and insulating homes. These are practical steps that reduce emissions and improve energy security.

I was pleased to see people in Norwich making their voices heard. Organisers of Saturday’s Stop Rosebank event reported strong public support and thoughtful conversations throughout the day. Most people they spoke with agreed that the oilfield is a poor deal for Britain and a serious risk to the climate.
