This week I led a debate in Parliament on living standards in the East of England. For too long, our region has been left behind — while an authoritarian right, bankrolled by speculative capital, big tech, and dirty energy, fuels fear and scapegoating to divide us. Labour’s measures – Best Start hubs, energy efficiency upgrades, breakfast clubs – are real gains. But they’re just the start. If we want a society built on solidarity, not division, we must go further and faster. In my speech, I set out what we could do today to start the transformation our communities urgently need.
