Clive Lewis For Norwich South
I recently visited SenSi Treatment, a centre where a dedicated team of specialists delivers sensory integration therapy to children and families affected by trauma and attachment issues. They conduct assessments and offer both individual and group therapy sessions that support healing and personal growth. What impressed me most during my visit was not just the care of the team, but the passion and hope of the families they support.
Many of these families rely on funding from the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF). This pays for access to therapy and assessments their children urgently need.
However, due to the government’s recent announcement of 40% cuts to the ASGSF, services at SenSi have already undergone changes. These funds cover essential therapy for children dealing with complex trauma, a treatment that simply wouldn’t be affordable otherwise.
I listened as parents voiced their fears, anger, and sadness about what these cuts would mean for them. The strain on their children’s mental health. The gaps in education, relationships, and development. The support may no longer be there when it is most needed, so I’m representing Sensi’s and parents’ concerns about funding to the local authority and government ministers.
