Clive Lewis and three other panellists

I was invited to contribute to the Norfolk Chambers of Commerce Big Debate 2025

It was an excellent event with brilliant input from charities, social enterprises and businesses across the city and Norfolk.

I was involved in a great discussion on skills, training, and well-being as part of a panel. The panel focused on the challenges facing SMEs, the threats and opportunities of AI, and the need to ensure that my constituents are seen as more than just units to be trained in business interests.

We need a balance—supporting a successful and sustainable economy while recognising that the economy exists for all of us, not just the other way around. That means investing in skills that serve industry and individuals, ensuring fair opportunities for workers, and fostering well-being alongside economic growth in the right areas.

Some key initiatives discussed:

✅ Skills England – A national effort bringing together businesses, training providers, and government to tackle skills shortages.

✅ Growth and Skills Levy – A more flexible approach to funding apprenticeships and training that works for businesses and workers alike.

✅ Homebuilding Skills Hubs – 32 new hubs providing fast-track training for construction, helping to meet housing demand and create stable, skilled jobs.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this vital discussion. Let’s keep working towards an economy that delivers for people as much as it does for business.
