Today, the Climate and Nature Bill was introduced to Parliament by Roz Savage MP. I am proud to be co-sponsoring this bill, whose time has come.
I have long been a supporter for the Climate and Nature Bill, initiated by the Zero Hour campaign, and hope to see the government getting behind this comprehensive legislation, which is now backed by nearly 200 MPs from across parties.
Find out more about the bill here.
This landmark bill would put the UK on course to meet its international climate and nature targets.
If passed, the Climate and Nature Bill (or CAN Bill) would update the UK’s climate and environmental legislation in line with commitments that the UK Government has already made internationally—first, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with limiting global heating to 1.5°C—and second, to reverse nature loss by 2030.
By doing so, it would put the UK on track to meet its climate and nature commitments and has already attracted the support of major figures such as Chris Packham, Deborah Meaden and (former net zero tsar) Chris Skidmore who said the Government should enact this “Climate Change Act 2”.
The legislation was introduced in the House of Commons by Dr Roz Savage and has been co-sponsored by 11 cross-party MPs.
