Today’s announcement that the Government will not fight the legal challenge against the Rosebank oil field is one that I welcome with open arms.
When the Conservatives were in power, they handed out hundreds of oil and gas licences at the expense of people and the planet, all so that the fossil fuel industry could eke out even more profits.
That’s why I welcome this decision. Hats off to campaigners who challenged the licence and the movement which led to the law making it possible. Labour must now focus on a sustainable green transition and supporting those communities and workers affected by decarbonisation.
