The Bibby Stockholm asylum barge in Dorset was the ultimate symbol of the Tories’ cruelty towards refugees.

That’s why I welcome today’s announcement from the Home Office that the barge will be closed in January.

This announcement should be the first step of many from the Government towards building a more compassionate asylum system. 

Under the Conservative government, I wrote a letter to the then Home Secretary asking for permission to inspect the Bibby Stockholm. After being denied access by the Home Secretary, I made a video explaining why I wanted to board the barge.
