Clive Lewis For Norwich South
Attending the Prime Minister’s statement in Parliament today on the final inquiry report into the infected blood scandal, it was clear to me and everyone else that the British state, the NHS, politicians, and successive Governments of all political colours have comprehensively failed the victims and their families.
In Norwich, we know some of those waiting for justice have died, exacerbating the awful nature of this pretty shameful episode.
Despite their words today, this Government has repeatedly ignored the interim recommendations by the inquiry, for a compensation framework to be set up and further interim payments to be made without delay. Given that on average a victim of the scandal dies every 4 days, warm words will not be enough.
The Government must act immediately to get the compensation scheme up and running. Myself and other Parliamentarians will scrutinise this to ensure it happens.
