I wrote a letter to the Foreign Secretary, Lord Cameron, asking that military resources due for disposal be donated to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since the all-out Russian invasion on 24 February 2022, I have advocated the provision of the necessary aid to enable Ukraine to win the war and secure its freedom.
I wrote the letter to ask that steps be taken to ensure that all vehicles and aircraft due for disposal be now automatically donated to Ukraine instead of via sale/auction.
I have called for precisely this to be done by the UK in two separate Early Day Motions since the all-out invasion
Read my most recent Early Day Motion on this here.
It is deeply concerning that since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the Ministry of Defence has sold off 1044 military vehicles.
Ukraine is facing a shortage of ammunition and other materials, this has exposed civilians to an increased threat from air attacks and the front lines are under increasing pressure.
There is an urgent need to consider other available means by which military aid can be increased to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
I urge the Foreign Secretary to consider this proposal as soon as possible and if possible to meet with myself and my colleagues of the Ukraine Solidarity Campaign to discuss this request.
