Following a meeting I attended with Maria Caulfield MP, the Parliamentary-under-Secretary for Mental Health and Women’s Health Strategy, I was asked by BBC Radio Norfolk for my thoughts on what is needed to solve the crisis at the Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust.

I told Jo Thewlis from BBC Radio Norfolk that an independent public inquiry into the failures of NSFT is absolutely necessary. This is so we can understand what exactly has gone wrong, and what lessons we can learn not just here, but across the country.

I pointed to the potential number of 8000 preventable deaths under the care of the trust to highlight that this crisis is a national scandal. If we are to break up the trust, without understanding what went wrong so uniquely at NSFT, we run the risk of making the same mistakes again.

I held a meeting in Parliament with the families of the victims of NSFT’s mental health crisis. Read about the meeting here
