I asked the CEO of the Climate Change Committee if net zero requires wealth redistribution

In this week’s session of the Environmental Audit Committee, the Committee took oral evidence from the Chief Executive of the Climate Change Committee, Chris Stark, in relation to mapping the path to net zero.

I asked Mr Stark if he agreed with me that for a green transition to be made possible, a redistribution of wealth is necessary.

He explained to me that how the cost of the transition is distributed is something that the Committee have looked at. He also said that asking low-income households to foot the bill for the transition to net zero would not be a good strategy for decarbonisation.
