The Government has U-turned on its plans to close almost all ticket offices across England.
This is excellent news and shows what can sometimes be achieved if people stand together for the common good. Despite decades of compelling them to behave like businesses, our railways are still part of our public services.
Here in the East, we’ve saved the guards on our trains and kept our ticket offices open. If we need a service, it shouldn’t be the ‘bottom line’ determining whether we get it.
