The Climate Education Bill has been adopted by the The Labour Party in our draft policy programme ahead of the next election.
I am proud to Co-Sponsor this initiative. This is the first bill in the UK written by students, and sets an expectation for all education providers to teach about the climate emergency.
This will embed quality, integrated climate education into the national curriculum and place a duty on education agencies such as Ofsted to ensure this was practiced.
It is essential that aim to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions goes hand in hand with teaching children about the climate and the world we will inhabit.
Thank you to my Labour colleague Nadia Whittome MP for bringing forward this bill, and the young activists at Teach the Future. These young people are shining examples of grassroots leadership, and have shown that determination and collaborative campaigning can win real change.
