Energy Bill pain is here to stay, unless we fix the broken pricing system.
In September, MPs have an unmissable chance to act. I’ve tabled New Clause 36 to the Energy Bill, which would introduce a National Energy Guarantee.
The National Energy Guarantee would guarantee we can all access the basic energy we need, lower our bills and help reduce carbon emissions.
Everyone should have access to the energy they need to cover essentials – from heating to eating to connectivity. We also need a carbon premium so that wealthier, high-energy use households pay more, incentivising a cut in consumption.
The National Energy Guarantee has cross-party support in Parliament, as well as support from Green New Deal Rising, Fuel Poverty Action, New Economics Foundation.
