At the Environmental Audit Committee inquiry on Food Security

This week, during my proposed inquiry into food security, the Environmental Audit Committee took evidence exploring whether the national food system is resilient enough to cope with the growing threat of a warming climate and biodiversity decline.

Of those giving evidence included George Monbiot and Professor James Lowenberg-DeBoer.

I asked George Monbiot what he thought about the role of new technology in helping us adapt to climate crisis’ worst impacts on food security.

He said that he believed similarly to the energy sector, where new technologies have offered us a way out of the use of fossil fuels, new food technologies can help us avoid the most destructive impacts of food production.
