Local media asked me to comment on Boris Johnson narrowly surviving the confidence vote. Here’s what I said in full.

“This is a government which has continually put first the interests of its backers in the energy, hedge fund and asset management industries. The 350 or so Tory MPs in Parliament have voted for laws that have severely jeopardised our civil liberties, human rights, and democracy itself. The Conservative Party might have a tree in its logo but still, its leaders and members are hostile to pretty much every change needed to avert climate and environmental catastrophe.

None of that will change whether Boris Johnson stays or goes. And we – the people – don’t even get any input into that bit of this grim Westminster bubble psychodrama. Instead, that choice goes to the same Conservative MPs who lauded to the rafters this deeply flawed, incompetent, self-interested prime minister just a year ago.”
