If culture is truly the widening of the mind and the human spirit – and there’s every reason to believe it is – then making it accessible to all is essential. Frozen Light is a Norwich theatre company that has taken this approach in a direction few have.

Unfortunately, venues are not required by law to be accessible. That, and as you can imagine, theatre that caters for the sensory and cognitive needs of those with PMLD, is rare.

Hence Frozen Light’s mission – to create exciting and original multi-sensory theatre for audiences with PMLD, and then tour it to theatre venues and arts centres nationwide. Because experiencing theatre and performance is a human right and that means full accessibility.

Recently, I was lucky enough to meet the troupe behind the project as they performed Firesongs at The Garage as part of the Norfolk & Norwich Festival.  With audiences of around just six (plus carers) the show is a veritable sensual feast of touch, sound and sight.
