Lots of constituents have been in touch with me this week to express their disappointment about the Government’s decision to lift the ban on neonicotinoids (a type of pesticide which can be deadly to bees).
I empathise with the challenges our farmers are facing at the moment, but the use of neonicotinoids risks disastrous long-term consequences for our environment. The importance of pollinators such as bees to our food supply, biodiversity and economy cannot be understated.
I have signed Caroline Lucas MP’s cross-party letter which calls upon George Eustice, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, to urgently rethink this damaging decision.
