Earlier this week I was on Politics Live to discss the latest lockdown restrictions. I challenged the Government on the decade of austerity that has decimated children’s services, like Sure Start centres and youth clubs.
Right now, shools are a canary in the coal mine. It’s where we are seeing the very real consequences of what happens when Governemnt’s fail to invest in building a strong social security system. It means that in a time of crisis, the safety net is not there to catch those who need it.
If you are a working parent, or know a working parent who is worried, please be aware that you can be furloughed to look after children when schools are closed.
Until this Government delivers the strongest possible package of support that doesn’t let anyone slip through the cracks, I will not stop calling for it.
