It’s been nine months since the first national lockdown, and the Government still doesn’t have an adequate plan to make sure all students have access to devices and internet so they can learn from home.
Lockdown has highlighted just how vital digital inclusion is: for education, work, accessing advice and keeping socially connected. It shouldn’t have taken a national pandemic for this to become apparent to the Government. Labour knew this, and our ‘Broadband for all’ pledge at the last election would gone a long way to help address the digital divide.
We need a plan to improve education access which includes mass roll-out of devices and internet access, removal of data charges on education websites and technical support for schools.
