Many constituents have been in touch to let me know how concerned they are that the Lloyds Pharmacy on Colman Road is shutting down. This comes just months after the Boots Pharmacy further up the road closed its doors.
The current pandemic has shown just how much we need reliable, community-centred access to healthcare and advice. As well as the impact on local residents – many of whom will now have to walk unacceptable distances to access a pharmacy – closing pharmacies creates a false economy and increases pressure on already-struggling GPs, A&E departments and walk-in centres.
I am liasing with the local University ward councillors and we will be writing to Lloyds to reiterate the impact of this decision on the community: especially some of the most vulnerable residents.
