Below is the ‘word cloud’ for all the emails and letters my office and I received last month.  We dealt with approximately 1800 cases in June and, as you can see, the topic I received the most correspondence about was #BlackLivesMatter. There are few subjects that have ever elicited such an overwhelming response.

As well as the large volume of emails from constituents letting me know their views on big issues like this, we still received hundreds of emails from individuals who need help with urgent problems affecting their lives: including (but not limited to) issues around benefits, employment, housing and immigration. At the moment, many of these cases are interconnected with the Covid-19 crisis and the big changes many have had to undergo as a result of it.

Although we’re working hard to respond to as many people as possible – on as many different topics as possible – it’s these urgent cases where constituent’s welfare and livelihoods are at risk which have to take priority. Especially while our caseload is so high owing to pandemic-related issues, there still may be a delay in responding to non-urgent or policy emails – but we hope to get back to everyone soon.
