Don’t mention PPE on social media, hospital staff warned

Due to some technical difficulties, I haven’t been able to update the website in recent weeks – but we are now back online.

Last month, I was asked for my views about N&N hospital trust staff being told not to mention PPE, such as face masks and gowns, on social media. This is the full response I gave, and from speaking to constituents on the ground, these issues are still present today:

“Sadly, this doesn’t surprise me at all. Health and care workers have been contacting me for weeks asking me not to inadvertently reveal their identities to their employers when we’ve been following up on their concerns.

I am in absolutely no doubt that just to do their jobs, public-facing workers are routinely being expected to put in jeopardy their health and that of their loved ones because of the shortage of protective equipment. What are these workers meant to do? Just shut up about it and wait to get ill or die?

The grim back story to all of this is that local public bodies are being used as a shield to protect this government from the blame they deserve for getting us into this mess in the first place.”
