The BBC have claimed that Naga Munchetty, BBC Breakfast presenter, has breached the corporations guidelines when criticising Donald Trump’s racist comments.
BBC journalists shouldn’t be prohibited from commenting on evidently racist language at a time when racist rhetoric is having a real impact on people’s lives. It is a dangerous fallacy for journalism to confuse impartiality with ethical impotence.
There must be incontrovertible values our democracy stands for. Challenging racism, especially from the powerful, is one such critical function of democratic journalism.
I have tabled EDM2737 in support of Naga – please write to your MP and ask them to support it.
