Last week, in my role as Labour’s Shadow Minister for Sustainable Economics, I spoke at the IPPR (ippr) conference on the environmental breakdown: exploring the implications for society, the need for transformative change and what the political response should be.
Ultimately, we have to act fast to lead society away from the global disruption environmental breakdown will inevitably bring: economic instability, large-scale involuntary migration, conflict and famine. Events like this which bring politicians, researchers, economists and other professionals in the field together provide a welcome forum for developing the narratives and policy required to do this.
