Clive Lewis For Norwich South
I was asked by local press for my views on the latest version of the Parliamentary Boundary Review and am quoted in the linked article. Here’s the full quote I gave.
“While there’s a certain poetic justice in Chloe Smith having to vote to reduce her own chances of re-election, it’s crystal clear that the return of this Review unfairly benefits the Tories nationally.
As it stands, the electoral system already favours the Tories. They win a seat for every 43,000 votes against 49,200 needed for every Labour victory. The Review will reinforce this unfairness, gifting the Tories an extra 30 or so seats advantage without having to win a single extra vote.
Make no mistake, this Boundary Review has nothing to do with ‘reducing the cost of politics’ or enhancing democracy. It’s a blatant Gerrymandering excersise to attempt to keep this imploding government in power.”
