To commemorate the International Day for the Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery & Transatlantic Slave Trade, I chaired a historical panel in Parliament.

I hosted Laura Trevelyan and two heirs of enslavement from Nantes, France. Dieudonne Boutrin (navy blue jacket) and Pierre Guillon de Prince (grey jacket), are descendants of the enslaved and enslavers respectively.

Similarly to myself and Laura Trevelyan, Dieudonne and Pierre are fighting for the history of slavery in France to be recognised, they came to Parliament to describe their struggles, successes and shared history.

On this day, we felt it fitting to discuss these shared experiences as heirs of enslavement. Dieudonne left us with an inspirational African proverb.

“If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together”.
