After learning the news that the average renter now joins a queue of 25 competing tenants, I’ve released the following statement:

“These are horrifying national stats, and things are just as bad here.

On average, Norwich private renters are paying a staggering £3000 p.a. or nearly 20% more than in 2021. Overall, private tenants in our city are now paying £32 million p.a. more in rent than two years ago.

It is great that Labour-run Norwich City Council stretches every sinew to provide more council homes and protect private tenants. But we need fundamental and radical national change to get close to ending the most profound housing and cost of living crisis for over a generation.”
