I have signed a letter from Marsha de Cordova MP calling for the Home Secretary to rectify the ongoing harm regarding the Windrush scandal.

According to Human Rights Watch, as of January of 2023, only 12.8% of those who are eligible for compensation for their treatment during the Windrush scandal have been compensated.

Moreover, the Home Office has revealed that more than 20 people have died whilst waiting for their Windrush compensation to be paid.

The treatment of the Windrush generation has been unacceptable. As a result, this letter calls for the government to meet the letter’s signatories and commit to the following steps.

      1. Establish and publish a clear ‘time limit target’ for handling Windrush compensation claims that are currently managed by the UK Home Office.
      2. Publish a reformed national strategy that includes steps to hand over the process to an independent body which understands the needs and experiences of communities affected by the scandal.

I look forward to the Home Secretary’s response.
