I welcome the news that Norfolk Tories have U-turned on the next phase of cuts to the care disabled working age adults in our county recieve – but it doesn’t detract from the fact these cruel cuts should have been scrapped long ago.

The changes to the amount of money disabled people have to pay towards their care are now to be deferred at least until the government publishes its green paper on adult social care. This is something Labour Group at Norfolk County Council were already arguing for as a sensible and reasonable way forward.

Well done to all the families, campaign groups and Labour councillors who were involved in running such a powerful and effective campaign. I will continue to stand with them in the fight to make sure disabled people in our city and county are treated fairly and supported to have the best possible quality of life.

(Pictured is me with campaigners earlier this year at a protest against these changes to the minimum income guarantee.)
