Stories like this are ten-a-penny across the country and show just how broken the market for private accomodation is.
Landlords get away with sharp practice time and time again and savage cuts to local authority budgets deprive councils of the resources they need to put a stop to the exploitation of tenants.
Too many people are forced to put up with unacceptable, unfit and downright dangerous housing. A future Labour government will give tenants new legal powers to enforce their right to a decent home by easily taking their landlord to court if the property they live in is not fit.”
