This is my statement on the announcement by the University of East Anglia that jobs will be cut:

This is a really worrying announcement for UEA staff and their families. I’ve already offered my support to the University and College Union (UCU) locally. I know many are already fighting to protect pensions, conditions and salaries. I know many University staff who are already stressed, now fear being made unemployed and are wondering how on earth those left will be able to pick up the workload.

Staff and unions have already prevented job losses and compulsory redundancies at other universities. I back the UCU and other unions at UEA in their attempts to do the same here.
