Over the last decade pensioner poverty has risen by almost half a million. This year alone, the value of the state pension fell by 5% and would fall further by more than 4% if the triple lock is yet again broken.
As a country we have the resources and ability to create a strong social safety net, where everyone is secure in their retirement. So there’s no excuse to break the triple lock and drive up poverty among pensioners during a cost of living crisis.
Tonight I voted to support a Labour Party motion which called on the Government to not break their commitment to maintaining the State Pension triple lock.
