School_uniform_survey_front_draft1_(1)-page-001.jpg

Many families in Norwich have contacted me over recent months with their concerns about the affordability and accessibility of school uniform. If you have a school-age child or dependant it would be very useful if you could complete and return the attached survey.

Q: Which school does your child/dependant attend?
A: I have recently left ‘North Walsham High School’ while I may not have to pay for my school uniform I was well aware of the cost involved in paying for school uniform. I have seen many young students in blazers far too small and worn for them, they are stained and ripped, but I know that these items of the uniform can cost up to £60 and is too expensive for some families to afford.

Q: Any other comments?
A: My daughter has only 2 school tops to last her the year because I can’t afford more and she has to sneakily wear supermarket shop bought trousers because we cannot afford the trousers with the logo that CNS insist on. It is totally ridiculous and unfair on parents that we have to buy trousers with the logo. The PE kit at CNS is also ridiculous with everything having a logo. My daughter’s PE is a hand me down from her older brother.

Q: Any other comments?
A: The Schoolwear Centre is where all logo uniform has been supplied from, however they have announced this week their closure at the end of Jan 2017. High school children are growing all the time and items have to be replaced due to being outgrown, It is not fair to ask a child to wear clothes many sizes too big, just to make them last, as that is a catalyst for bullying nowadays therefore needs to be more affordable and available to all.
