Protect our Pensions

I'm joining Norwich Labour Party in campaigning against the Tories disgraceful and unjustified attack on the state pension.

The Government is planning to bring forward changes to the state pension age. This change will affect all men and women currently between the ages of 39 and 47, who will be forced to work a year longer before they can get their pension.

Almost 21,000 people in Norwich will lose out by £10,000 each under these plans.

The Labour Party will leave the state pension age at 66, and will always be on the side of pensioners and help ensure security and dignity for older people in retirement.

What about women, such as myself, who have lost 6 years of State Pension with no notice from DWP!! I was expecting to get my state pension at age 60, and only found out, with 6 months to go, that I had to wait until I’m 66! Contrary to their claims, the DWP did not issue a letter to myself or anyone I know. They state they advertised the changes in a women’s magazine and a national paper, neither of which were read by me whilst I was working 60 hours a week. I have paid tax and National Insurance for over 40 years. It is completely and utterly wrong that the Government should be allowed to move the goal posts without adequate notice, thus consigning thousands of women to live on little money and a life of dependency on others.
