Norwich South Labour MP Clive Lewis has responded to an Inspiration Trust call to “end the war of words” between him and Inspiration Trust over the Academy Chain’s plan to take over the Hewett school and its £60million worth of land.
Mr Lewis said:
“I amazed but not surprised by this latest piece of doublethink by Inspiration Trust. While they publicly claim that they want to move on, they are firing out emails to selected MPs and stoking up the disagreement in the local media by giving only their side of the story.
I recently put an Early Day Motion to the House of Commons about Inspiration Trust’s plan to take over the Hewett and over £60million of land on the site. Their response to this was to claim in a circulated email that I had got my facts wrong. I didn’t and have now responded to their claims.”
Talking of Inspiration Trust’s claim that Hewett School land is worth nothing, Mr Lewis said:
“In that email, Inspiration Trust make the preposterous claim that the acres of our Hewett land they are after “has no value”. In truth, the County Council valued the land at £60million five years ago - in 2009 - so it may well be worth closer to £100million today.
If that’s the kind of intelligence-insulting propaganda that Inspiration Trust want to go unchallenged, they are out of luck facing me as the local MP.
On behalf of the people who elected me to face down shadowy, unaccountable, vested interests like the Inspiration Trust, I will continue to speak out against Inspiration Trust’s completely unwanted attempt to take over Hewett School and close to £100million of our land.”
