Out of hours services in Norfolk will be understaffed this weekend due to staff shortages revealed yesterday.
Dr Tim Morton spelled out problems with GP recruitment and retention at the Norfolk Health Overview and Scrutiny committee this morning (Thursday) at County Hall telling members that the the out-of-hours service would be short of staff this weekend.
Commenting on the news, Labour MP Clive Lewis said:
“News of the staff shortages and considerable strain on the out of hours service are hugely concerning. We have seen problems with GP recruitment and retention across Norfolk and Suffolk for a long time now, so this comes as little surprise.
"What will be shocking to most however, is the complete inaction of the Government to intervene and do something to address the chronic under-funding of our NHS to provide it with the resources it needs to attract good quality doctors committed to Norwich and Norfolk. Instead the Government chose to spend billions on a top-down reorganisation of our NHS and now doctors, nurses and patients are paying the price."
