Today I visited one of the Norwich Foodbank distribution centres in Bowthorpe to see the incredible work they do first-hand.

The Bowthorpe Centre provides food, drink and drop-in support for those who need it the most, with organisations such as Shelter, Your Own Place and the British Red Cross available for support.

Norwich Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust UK network of food banks. The Trussell Trust is a national charity providing emergency food and support to people in poverty, they are also campaigning to end the need for food banks in the UK.

Their latest campaign, Guarantee Our Essentials, asks the leaders of political parties to ensure Universal Credit protects people from going without the essentials such as food, water and the capacity to pay their bills.

Currently, Universal Credit is not fit for purpose. Our social safety net is broken, and reform is needed.
