The UK government must heed this warning and apply pressure on Israel to change course.

Following the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) most recent ruling regarding the ongoing conflict in Israel and Palestine, I released the following statement.

Today’s ICJ ruling is clear: there is a risk of irreparable harm for Palestinians under the genocide convention. Therefore, no government claiming to act on behalf of the ‘rules based order’ can ignore this ruling.

The UK government must heed this warning and apply pressure on Israel to change course.

It should immediately impose a ban on the sale of arms to Israel. Failure to do so will have yet further devastating consequences for Palestinians.

The principles of humanitarianism must apply to all of us. More than 22,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the conflict, and more than 90% of Gaza’s population has been displaced.

We cannot turn our backs on them. I reiterate my call for a ceasefire.
